The Weekend Project: College Catch-up

Having started college late due to the college loosing my application I have a good big to catch up on. This just happens to be a bank holiday weekend, so I’ve now got an extra day to catch up and get some where with this.

When I started each class for the first time I went to each tutor and told them that I was just starting and if they had any handouts or materials that I could get to help me catch up. So I now have a nice pile of college work building up.

Weekend Project: Updates

Here is the first of the weekend project updates. This weekend sees the 4th of the weekend projects and so far they have been quite successful. The original idea behind me starting these weekend projects was to give me a helping hand and a much needed kick up the arse to get things done. So far I have covered sorting out my emails, a household budget and a desktop cleanup. These are things that I needed to get done. To help me in my personal life and give me both a clear mind and the clear space to get things done. So onto the first update:

Email Clean Out:

When I started this project I had over 4,000 emails to get through and to see which ones where junk, which ones I could unsubscribe from and which ones I wanted to keep. I am now glad to say that my inboxes are now only holding the emails that I want and as they come in, I delete the ones that I don’t want. A great way to keep on top of things and have another area sorted.

Household Budget:

I have setup a household budget that has yet to take effect, for the simple reason that I get paid montly. The budget is designed for my whole months salary as I had already spent a good bit of my salary when I started the budget, so this will come into effect next week when I get paid. I have enough money leftover after my expenses to be able to save a bit and live comfortably, which was the main aim of the budget. It only remains now to see if I can stick to the budget.

Desktop Cleanup:

This one is the one that is holding me back. I didn’t think that this one would be so difficult. I cleaned up my desktop and got rid of some of the items that where that I did not need or use. I am looking for programs that will help me in my tasks and see what will be benifical to me. Also I need a nice desktop wallpaper.

So it’s back to work I go on the desktop and see what I can find and what is helpful. Will give you all a new screen shot when it is done and list the software that I am using and what each does.

Weekend Project: Personilzed Desktop

Over the past few weeks, I have been seeing posts another website about how people have their desktops personalized and how people have adjusted them to suit there needs, a lot of useful programs that help them in their daily tasks and make life easier. I have collect a number of these programs that I think will help me complete my work sooner and easier.

Here is a snap shot of my current desktop:

original desktop

As you can see my desktop is a bit scattered and has no orginisation to it. Still has the default vista wallpaper, not a lot of programs there that will really help me get things done. So off I go now to sort out my desktop and yes I will show you my desktop once it is done. Look out for a post on this later in the week.

Weekend Project: Household Budget

Earlier this week, while browsing the blogosphere, I went to a blog that I read often called dcrblogs.com. Dan had written a post about making a household budget in order to save money. At the moment, no doubt it is the same for many others, I have a number of loans that are really draining the pocket each month. So I need to do up a budget and get a close look at where I am loosing money and where I can save some extra money.

You can read Dan’s post here to find out more and get some great tips.

Weekend Project: E-mail Clear Out

I’m starting a new category today called The Weekend Project. The idea behind the weekend project is to give me a push in getting things done. We all have our to-do lists and for a lot of us, well for me anyway, things tend to stay on the list and not get done, well this is one way for me to get things on my to-do list done.

This weekends project is a rather simple one to begin with. My e-mails have been building up for a quite a while now, with a lot of them being spam or just complete rubbish. I am going to check out these e-mails and see if there is an unsubscribe link in them, so as to reduce the amount of emails that I am recieveing. In my yahoo account I have 2169 unread emails and in the e-mail account for mikefolan.com, I have 2098. Giving me a grand total of 4267 emails to go through. So it might be a simple weekend project, but it will be a lenthy one.

If you think that the weekend project is a good way to get things done then why not start a weekend project for yourself and let me know what your weekend projects are. Ok so, off I go to put the kettle on and start into these e-mails, wish me luck!
