Not A Review Of The Week
It’s a cold and wet Friday morning as I write this. I am sat in the lobby of the GMIT learning centre waiting for the library to open so as to get some peace and quiet from the hum of people that are currently gathering to set up there stands to sell what ever they can to the poor and unsuspecting students as they move from lecture to lecture. The fact that I am sitting here in itself is good news.
Earlier in the year I had applied to GMIT as a part-time student to obtain a degree in computers and electronic systems. It was more the computer side of things that I liked about this course, particularly the programming. The electronics is a bit of a hobby of mine and was an added bonus. To cut a long story short the institute had lost my application and I only started the course this week, three weeks late.
I feel elated to be on this course and am anticpating what the coming year has in store for me. All things considered, I didn’t miss much in the three weeks that I wasn’t here, but still feel at a disadvantage to the rest of my peers.
I have now progressed from the lobby into the library, which, to my delight, has opened its doors on time. I now sit amoungst other students in complete silence having left all of the hussle and bustle, that was ever increasing, out in the lobby. The only thing that I can hear now is the sounds of keyboards, pencil cases being shook as students carefully remove their contents, the sound of noses being cleared as the rain still batters againist the window with such a force that only the wind could help to drive. Still it is a quiet sanctuary that does not allow for easy distraction and the work finally gets done.
Yet, as the weekend approaches I find myself feeling a little relieved that it is finally here. Having had such a busy week, between working nights and going to college during the day, I was only left with a few hours sleep during the week. So bring on the weekend and all that it brings.
